Plant Business Renewal Requirements:
Core POLT agreed that Plant Operations departments will migrate to a collective “annual renewal training” month during which annual, mandatory training business will be conducted. Prime examples of relevant business include COI-COC renewal, HIPAA updating, and any departmental recurrent/mandatory training and business they may choose. January was selected as the target month each year.
In summary:
- All permanent and temporary employees will complete COI-COC and HIPPA renewal by the end of January each year.
- The new Expiration date for COI-COC record entry into Learner Web is 1/31/one year out.
- The method by which you disseminate the COI-COC tutorial to shops and employees is a local decision for your area. You may use the tutorial http://www.provost.umich.edu/programs/COI_COC/tutorpotential3.html
or the power point Annual Update/Refresher (both included in the Toolbox). Completed paperwork is to be filed by the department.
- These same timelines apply to HIPAA: renew by 1/31/XX with a record expiration date of 1/31/one year out in Learner Web. F & O Wellness Coordinator, Greg Lambert sends out HIPAA forms at the beginning of each year. If you want forms prior to his annual mailing, contact Greg at Greg Lambert (get address) (38.107.191.118) or 7-4796. Completed HIPPA paperwork is to be sent back to Greg, as usual.

Recently hired and trained employees should have received initial training during your department orientation activity in accordance to the Department Checklist method adopted by Plant in 2007. Supervisors should use their own discretion as to whether a recently trained new employee needs to re-certify this year.
Note: Since Health and Safety training is a collaborative effort with OSEH, this element was not included nor excluded from the January designation; please work with OSEH Representatives, Keith Trombley and Ty Patton if you wish to align your training accordingly and within governmental timeline requirements.
