University of Michigan Waste Management Services provides recycling and waste collection on campus. The University operates two vehicles to collect trash and three vehicles to collect recyclable materials, five days per week. Special services are also available:
We provide regular refuse collection to over 200 sites on campus. Service includes normal building waste only. No renovation, construction or heavy maintenance materials. We strive to install, maintain and service refuse compactors and dumpsters in a clean, efficient manner.
* Compacted waste is $15.00/cubic yard
* Bulk/Loose waste is $ 6.76/cubic yard
Please fill refuse dumpsters and compactors as much as possible before requesting an extra pick-up above and beyond regular service. Plan ahead for special building and office clean-outs. Extra dumpsters can be delivered for clean-outs by contacting the Plant Operations Call Center at 647-2059 or by using their online request form. 24-Hour notice is required.
* Extra pick-ups charged at same rates as above.
* Dumpster Delivery Charge is $28.00
* Overflow Rate is $18.00
*If you're experiencing consistent overflow, contact Waste Management ((734) 763-5539) for a schedule adjustment.
Scrap wood, broken pallets and metals should never be put in trash compactors or dumpsters because they cause damage to our equipment. Wood waste and scrap metals should be accumulated separately. Bulky items (i.e. crates and theater sets) must be broken down. Please call in advance to schedule a pick-up.
* Disposal Rate is $18.00/cubic yard
We provide scheduled pick-up of paper (office paper, newspapers, corrugated cardboard) and mixed containers (glass and plastic bottles, milk cartons, steel and aluminum cans) to 165 locations on campus. Some smaller buildings are arranged on a "call in" pick-up service.
