Student Move-In Guide

For over 20 years, U-M Waste Management Services has worked with U-M Housing to make Student Move-In an Earth-friendly event. Since 1990, a program has been in place to collect the tons of cardboard generated by students during the August Move-In and expanded to include Styrofoam collection in 2000.

What should you do?

Bring cardboard boxes and Styrofoam to your residence hall’s loading dock. Or, if you live in Baits I or II or the Northwood Community Apartments, bring materials to the dumpsters located around the parking lots.

Now What?

Break 'em down! Empty out any trash or foam and flatten the boxes and toss them into the large, blue recycling dumpster.

 Flatten the Boxes!

What else?

Newspaper and office paper from boxes can also be recycled in the blue dumpster. Place plastic bubble wrap, Styrofoam blocks and packing peanuts in separate bags and place in the designated area.

Please remember to put other waste materials in the brown trash dumpsters.

Wondering about the end of the year? Be sure to check out the Student Move-Out page.
