1. Introductions

2. Power Point Presentation on Composting

Lynne showed a graph and explained that about ¼ of our waste is compostable and gave a description on composting materials, how to compost, why to compost, and how the University composts (see posted PowerPoint presentation [an error occurred while processing this directive]).

3. In Office Composting—Carol Volker

Carol explained how she started vermicomposting in her office. She explained how the bins work, what kind of materials are appropriate for worms, (think Vegan), and that “Red Wigglers” are the ideal worm for composting. Other tips included; how to make your own bin, how to control smell and moisture using shredded paper; vermi-favorites (apples!), and how to properly motivate coworkers. Carol explained that there can be a squeamish factor among some coworkers, and that implementing a bin in your office may require a strong initiative as well as placing signs that educate people on the do's and dont's of recycling. Carol finished by offering her help to anyone interested in starting their own composting program. She also made available her excess worms!

4. Next Meeting
