In Spring 2008, the University’s Fire Marshal noted that recycling bins located in public areas should be of non-combustible construction. The Rubbermaid recycling bins placed in public areas for the last 5 years do not meet this requirement, so steel bins are being reintroduced to campus.

Recycling Bin Guide

-For public (e.g. lobbies, lunchrooms, hallways, common areas, classrooms, etc.) & non-public areas.
-Available at no charge to General Fund buildings.
-Available for $44.49/short bin and $55.08/tall bin for auxiliaries.
-For public (e.g. lobbies, lunchrooms, hallways, common areas, classrooms, etc.) & non-public areas.
-Similar bins available at a discounted rate for General Fund buildings. Email recycle@umich.edu for more information.
-Similar bins available for purchase by auxiliaries. Email Recycle (get address) (38.107.191.105) for more information.
-For non-public areas only (offices, staffed reception areas).
-Available at no charge to General Fund buildings.
-Available for $46.73 for auxiliaries.

Blue Recycling Cart
These dumpsters vary in size and are generally located near loading dock areas for collection of recyclable paper and corrugated cardboard. If you live in the Northwood Community Apartments, these dumpsters are located in the parking lots. These carts are usually located outside of buildings near loading dock areas for collection of recyclable containers. If you live in the Northwood Community Apartments, these dumpsters are located in the parking lots. They can also be used for large office clean out projects to transport recyclables to the loading dock as well. Requests are filled based on availability of carts. To effectively schedule delivery, requests should be submitted two weeks in advance. To request a blue cart for a clean out project call 763-5539.
