Glass Bottles and Jars

Glass and ceramics are collected in the CONTAINERS category. This includes any bottles, jars and ceramics or glassware. All materials must be emptied and rinsed. Metal lids should be detached from jars and placed in the same bin. (This enables a magnet at the MRF to separate the ferrous metal from glass). Plastic lids should be discarded.

* Containers that once held chemicals require special handling before recycling. Call Waste Management Services at 763-5539 for specific instructions.

Ceramics and bottle glass are separated at the MRF. Ceramics are crushed to make aggregate material for road paving. Bottle or "container glass" is crushed into cullet, melted and formed into new bottles by bottle manufacturers.
