Client: Stockwell Hall Project: Restoration of 300 Stickley chairs Date: February 2003

Replacing our original Stickley windsor chairs in the Stockwell dining room with new replicas from Stickley was cost prohibitive. But thanks to the skill of Phil and Chris in the U of M Upholstery Shop, the chairs have been beautifully repaired and refurbished, at a price that fit the project budget. The newly refurbished chairs not only look great, but thanks to your efforts these historic and special chairs will serve us for years to come. It's great to have you as a resource for repairing / refurbishing all wood furniture, as well as upholstered pieces! Kudos for a job well done!

Stickley Brothers Furniture Co.: Albert and John George Stickley, two of the five Stickley brothers who made furniture in the United States, opened the Stickley Brothers Furniture Co. in Grand Rapids in 1891 to produce occasional chairs and fancy tables in Colonial and Mission styles. The company began its trademark "Quaint Mission" line in 1903, with residential furniture in oak sometimes augmented with hand-wrought copper hardware and Spanish leather upholstery. In 1914 the company began a line of revival pieces with Japanese painted decorations, as well as other revival styles, always under the "Quaint" trademark. The company ceased production in 1954.
